Hi there,
Welcome to my newsletter. For the uninitiated, I’m Lizzy Saxe. I’m a food, society, and pop culture writer, and this is where you’ll find my musings on all things edible and escapist.
Food, stories, and stories about food are my favorite topics to think and write about because nothing is more universal than enjoying a delicious meal or being riveted by a tale of adventure, no matter what form it comes in.
Everyone eats, and, in the age of the Internet, apparently, everyone writes. And yet we treat the stories that inspire us and the foods that nourish us ( and the people who make them) like they don’t matter.
In this newsletter, I’ll send you my thoughts on things I’m reading and watching and playing (spoiler: most of it will be foodie or fantastical because I am nothing if not predictable). I’ll throw in lazy recipes (do not expect exact measurements), passionate product recommendations, and even the occasional restaurant review.
That might look like a deep dive into the appeal of farming video games like Stardew Valley and Spiritfarer, examining the deep-rooted problems with the restaurant industry, entertaining explorations of weird old food books, and whatever else has me fired up in a particular week. But mostly, this is where to come for my thoughts on the stories we tell ourselves about what we eat because writing about food is writing about people, and we could all use a little more human understanding
For the moment, The Girl with the Garlic Tattoo is free and biweekly. If and when that changes, you’ll hear all about it.
Can’t wait to feed your mind,
Lizzy
